Wide-Eyed Wanderer Adventures

Chapter 1 · Into the Dragon's Land

Power for the Road

5 October 2010

Oh, power, power, power, POWER! For years I have wondered what it would be like to stand in it. Genuinely stand in my rooted, primal ROAR power. Not the show-off, "macho" kind of place that is really in the domain of Force [that thing we do when we perceive a lack of Power], but the "in the flow," "Neo-dodging-bullets-one-with-it-all" kind of power [Matrix fans, anyone?]. Someone once told me to beware of my wishes for they just might manifest...

And so did this one. By a fling of luck, I have found myself at Joe Weston's "Respectful Confrontation" 3 day playshop. There, through a number of intense physical exercises, I landed in that rooted, primal place of saying "NO" from my power-center. I realized that until that moment, my "no" was perpetually mixed with an unhealthy dose of guilt. I got that place of power anchored firmly in my body - it feels like every cell got the message. I feel that I can "beam" back into it any time. The natural question that kept buzzing through my agitated brain as I grew out of the ground in a powerful wuji stance effortlessly "dodging bullets" was: "why would I EVER give this power away again?"

Instantaneously, I felt like I gained access to an enormous area of my life - all those places where confrontation was the way to get through. All those places I have spent my life avoiding. It felt like a brick wall just turned into a passage. Became transparent before my eyes. I became fundamentally AT CHOICE. I gained my right to my perpetually safe personal space and have given myself full permission to say a powerful NO to anything that didn't serve me and especially - to anything that attempted to violate my boundary.

My view of confrontation has transformed from that of the "eminent conflict" to "a game that leads to the deepening of a relationship, clarity and speaking my truth." I did not expect just how empowering that reframe and new set of skills be in orchestrating the logisticae of my journey [including the de-tangling process from my life in the U.S.] I feel thoroughly blessed to have had this training - I'm ready to take it out into the world to create peace in places where dis-chord could be present otherwise.
